Types of Chemical Reactions

Chemical reactions are often classified into categories according to characteristics of the reactions.  Chemical reactions can be classified as:

• Combination reactions.


• Decomposition reactions.


• Single Replacement reactions (redox reaction).


• Double Replacement reactions.

The word redox is a combination of two words, reduction and oxidation.  These two words have multiple meanings when applied to chemical reactions.
